So, I know I haven’t been updating here :( my bad. I hardly have time to write in my own personal journal :B ahh well, no excuses.

Last time I updated was just before I left for Berlin and man oh man a lot has happened since then.

Quickie update, I love this place but I can’t wait to go home. … I miss sushi a lot, my friends here aren’t fish eaters. They can’t stand the smell, it’s sad. I love schnitzel, it’s amazing. I miss my guitar.. and my callouses are all peeling off. I miss driving around. Uhh… yeah.

Today was pretty usual. Met up with my tandem partner for lunch :) we were with LFRWKMDAG…(somehow we usually end up eating lunch together, it’s quite random) and we started talking about the American prison system and corruption and… condoms o_______o all over lunch. Yep, a very good impression of Canadian students. It was fun though :)

I’m looking forward to Berlin :)

Mondays are the same everywhere.. >< soooo tired :(

Just a random thought.. I really want a German keyboard .. it’s really hard for me to type things with umlauts and eszetts. Blaaah. Word is okay since I can do umlauts but blaah.

We barely had class today since we had to talk about Berlin. I’m really excited for it! Going to the Philharmonie, Konzentrationslager, some gov’t building thing and yeaaaaah! Exciting!

Had dinner at this random place in the corner of the street with EP, LM, LB, and E..something :P it was really random but good. I’m super full D: I feel like I’ve started to eat a lot again :( not good. Hanging out was cut short because EP got an urgent phone call and we had to go home :B. I had a nice walk home though :).

I wanna start exploring this place now. I took the bus to Koenigsplatz today instead of the Bahn… and then coming back we took a different Bahn :P so yeah time to adventure a bit more.

Today is Mother’s day! It’s also LJ’s bday and her family and bf came over. Definitely was anxious about having to be around deutsche Leute again especially since last night was overwhelming.

It wasn’t too horrible, I’d say. I woke up a bit late but I arrive just as CJ started eating breakfast so I joined her. I said Happy Mother’s day around three times before she heard me >< blaaah. Then we had a nice chat about the history of Mother’s day.. and I told her what I heard from SourceFed XD (sidebar: they had these cute little crocheted egg warmers that looked like hens) LJ came soon after and yeah. They started going about prepping the house for company and I just sat there awkwardly.

Went out for a little walk with LJ to get some fresh air. We talked about Umgangssprache (slang) both auf Deutsch and in English. Afterwards we baked.. well I awkwardly watched her bake and stuff for afternoon teatime.

I started working on my Aufsatz except I just couldn’t think so I ended up taking a nice Nickerchen :3 I wanted to sleep longer but I knew people were coming over soon and I didn’t want them to have to come wake me up :P So I was right, maybe 5 mins after I woke up they arrived.

Had afternoon tea with the family :) along with the cake/strudel…thing that LJ and I baked. Aunt talked a loooot :P I think it was mostly about her son and his getting into some Gymnasium or something like that. I understood more than I did last night XD After that we played Trivial Pursuit.. and I couldn’t understand the questions but even when I did I didn’t know the answers >< blaah. CJ and her brother were really good though. I feel like an idiot =_= uneducated around them sometimes. I’m not interested in history, politics… current events.. etc. Well I suppose I’m interested enough in history except I just don’t know that much? Idk.

We ordered food for dinner. I had this mushroom pizza.. except I think I got BJ’s because it had Schinken (ham, even though LJ said bacon.. although I guess it’s C-Bac) in it.. whoops >< I was full after half of it but I’m accustomed to finishing everything on my plate… so I ate it all. At home it would’ve been okay, I think.. but I haven’t been eating a lot for the past week or so… and yeah it was the most by far I have eaten here. We also had ice cream and bananas for dessert. Oiiii… I’m full.

So, I’ve been saying how awkward I’ve been here. Well yeah, it doesn’t stop. I didn’t know when to give LJ her present >< so I waited until people left. I awkwardly went over to her and was like “Ich habe ein Geschenk fuer dich”… and yeah ^^; Well she liked it :) so alles gut.

Woke up super frueh this morning and walked to the Bahnhof. Gonna see some salt mines! :D

The salt mines were pretty cool. I couldn’t really understand the guy talking though… luckily he didn’t talk too too much. We were on this truck this for the most part and the ride was very roller coaster-esque.

Then our groups split up, one went on a Stadtfuhrung, one went to the Sprache Museum, and one went wherever. I signed up for the Museum except I kinda wanted to go to the Stadtfuhrung. The museum wasn’t anything like I expected it to be.. except honestly I didn’t really know what to expect :P It was very interactive and lots of fun :D glad I went.

After that we had about 2 hours to walk around town and stuff and I was soooper hungry so KM and I went around to find food. We went into this bakery (what a surprise) and it was really good :) I had this pizza bun thing and a sausage roll :3 Then we wanted to have some Eis .. so we went and I finally got to have spaghetti eis! The only thing I was sad about was the fact that the whole bottom was whipped cream :/ I would rather have ice cream.

At home, my Gastschwester had some friends over and she invited me to hang out with them. Dinner wasn’t bad but they were speaking sooooooooooooooooooooo fast. I understood something about them exercising and someone doing a triathlon and then something about school and some person from school and class and… yeah >< too hard, too awkward. So we finished eating and I booked it to my room. I kinda wanted to hang around a bit more.. and be more social but it was just too hard :(

So I asked LJ what “awkward” was auf Deutsch.. except I can’t remember so I have to ask again tomorrow ><

Anyway because I asked, I told her that in Canada, we would say “awkward turtle” to point out an awkward situation. She loved it and she said that she would introduce it to her friends. WIN! :P She also thought it looked more like a whale because it only had two “legs” but turtles have four. I was like, well that’s why it’s awkward ;)

I wonder if it will catch on with German youths.

As much as I look forward to having no class.. I’m not quite sure I’m looking forward to weekends here :P Just because I don’t know what to do with myself. At home I’d work and then have meetings and then sleep the rest of the day away. Here, I want to go out and see things except it’s been pretty bad weather :(

Anyhow, today after the break, the 400s and the 200s sang songs to us XD pretty awesome. 300s have to do it next week (?) or after Berlin. Not looking forward to that lol :P it’s seriously like we’re in kindergarten :D

LF, RW, and I stay at Tor Cafe til really late again. I was gonna go with some others to the Grimm Brothers Museum but then it started pouring like crazy and after not even a minute outside, my pants were all wet.. so then I went back inside. CK came to our table and helped us go through chapter 9 of the book. Man, she must think we’re such idiots XD it was cool though.

I seriously really hate the fact that I always stay at school til late afternoon doing homework. So not me…

Anyway, after that LF, RW and I went to Konigsplatz to shop around and stuff. At this one shop this girl said something about … verschlusskauf?! and I was like.. eeehhh? Awkward turtle >< luckily LF knew what was going on :P

Afterwards we just walked around.. except I think I was being a little bit of a party pooper :P but anyway we ended up going to Mcd because RW wanted her gluten-free fries XD it was pretty cool.

We had to draw this “comic” thing for a small scene in Adam und Evelyn… mine was horrible but it’s all good. It was better than discussing the stupid book like usual.

Bleh, so I gotta finish writing my Tagebuch and then I have an Aufsatz to do for Monday. So much writing in German. I can’t believe how some people can blurt out words so quickly. I have to think over everything I write. Kinda sucks … :(

I feel so weird about staying on campus to do homework every day. Back home, I don’t start doing anything until 22:00 and blaaah idk.

I need to explore the city more.

3. Tag I think I’m gonna stop talking about how inadequate I am in class now. I think the whole world know how horrible I am :P

Anyway, had lunch with a bunch of new people. Well not new exactly but different. LF gets tried of routine.. so she likes changing it up >< I am the complete opposite so we’ll see how it goes hanging out with her. I don’t know how but I ended up eating with KM, DAG as well as RW, LS, AR, and DB. I guess RW, LS, LF, and I are usually together.. or at least we try to wait for each other.

Sorry… too many initials. Yeah so the five of us (KM, DAG, LF, RW and I) decided that after lunch we didn’t wanna go back to Tor Cafe like usual. KM said that he’s been to Nordpol Cafe before and he really liked the coffee and plus some of us still had the chip LR gave us on the first day for a small coffee. Anyway we went and hung out there and reviewed some Wortschatz. It was fun since we didn’t have to pretend that we were only speaking in German :P if we stayed at Tor Cafe, we would’ve had to be very careful with our English-speaking. We stayed there for a couple hours and I think the employees though we were crazy-English-speakers. We walked around a bit before we went back to meet our Tandem partners.

So yeah, my Tandem partner (JS.. lol) was really awesome. Her English is pretty much perfect >< I felt so bad speaking my uberbroken Deutsch that after a while I just gave up and said k let’s just speak English today.

The others waited for me because they wanted to go to Konigsplatz to shop except I felt like it was kinda late so I just came home. I will shop with EP and the other 200 people on Friday, vielleicht. Friday is a better day to shop :P

I’m getting more bequem with my Gastfamilie :) I think it’s also because my Deutsch is getting better.. even though I have to crank my brain gears very hard to produce anything good. Ah well.

Second day is coming to an end :) Class was good. Everything “geht gut” according to us in CSSG, EVERYTHING. Except I think that’s usually the case: “How are you?” “Good, you?” “Good.”

I feel very inadequate in class.. I don’t know how people can be so good at speaking and understand and so on…>< Don’t even start with the novel =_= good grief I can’t read to save my life. I remember that book I had to read for FREN122 or whatever, by Jean-Paul Satre… I can’t remember what it’s called but anyway yeah, I had the English translation of it and I couldn’t even understand it. Good grief.

Also, I’ve been trying to remember my French, why here I have no clue… but I’ve realized that I can’t construct proper French sentences anymore, everything comes out in German. J’ai oublie tout ma francais… et je pense que je ne peux pas quelquechoses… understand o_o verstehen… I can’t believe I used to write 500 word essays in French without any problems. I remember our IB French exam was like… a good few hundred words. I can’t even write 100 words in German without running out of things to say… meeeh

Anyway, today I stayed at TorCafe until 4-ish “doing homework”… at least LF and I made some progress with Kapitel 4 in Adam und Evelyn. Better than nothing.

Welcome dinner was tonight except my Gastfamilie couldn’t go, Schade.. but yeah it was good nonetheless :)

I want to walk around the city more. I really wanna go to Bergpark :/ and like the other places in Kassel :B it’s okay I still have lots of time… :)

Man, totally wishing I could’ve gone on the blending trip with everyone :B totally having a saints-withdrawal right now. I’m gonna try to go to Düsseldorf one weekend. Soon ><

I’m really having fun here though. Being suspicious about teachers spying on us, waiting to give us eine Gelbkarte… and speaking in superdupermuch broken Deutsch.
